The "Super Fruits"

Blackcurrants are bursting with anthocyanins which give blackcurrants their deep dark colour. The more anthocyanins, the deeper the colour and the more beneficial the juice.

The specific anthocyanins present within berry fruits vary. Attempting to identify benefits directly to the specific anthocyanins is difficult, although it is generally considered that all berry fruits are beneficial.

Vitamin C acts directly as an antioxidant and together with the anthocyanins contribute to Total Antioxidant Capacity. Antioxidants provide us with protection against harmful free radicals that enter the body and damage body tissue. Eating foods that contain high levels of antioxidants can help to prevent many degenerative and age related diseases.

There is approximately 3.4 times as much vitamin C apparent in 100g of blackcurrant compared to 100g of orange.

100g of blackcurrant also contains more vitamin C compared to the equivalent amount of cranberry, blueberry, or grape.

Berries including Blackcurrants, Raspberries, Blackberries and Blueberries are classified as ‘Super Fruits’ and a varied diet incorporating a selection of the ‘Super Fruits’ should be part of a healthy nutritional lifestyle.
